Role Overview

The Fulfilment Centre Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and performance of the fulfilment centres, ensuring that all warehouse operations run efficiently, safely, and in line with customer expectations.

You will be a hands-on operational leader, ensuring that our fulfilment centres operate efficiently while maintaining high service standards for clients. The role requires strong leadership presence on the warehouse floor, the ability to manage complex operational workflows, and a commitment to continuous improvement and team development.

The role oversees all operational activities including inbound goods, inventory management, picking, packing, dispatch, and returns processing. The Operations Manager ensures service levels are consistently met while driving operational efficiency, team engagement, and continuous improvement.

Working closely with customer experience, commercial, and technology teams, the role ensures the fulfilment operation supports client growth and delivers a high standard of service in a fast-paced e-commerce and 3PL environment. You will lead and inspire a line management team to achieve high standards and perform their full potential. You will ensure operational targets, cost control and KPI`s are achieved through mentorship, accountability, and continuous improvement. You will identify and develop talent to mould a forward thinking and responsive management team capable of supporting a dynamic fulfilment & logistics business.

Key Responsibilities

Operating across our North West Fulfilment centres, this diverse and fast-paced role spans a wide range of responsibilities, including (but not limited to):

Warehouse Operations Management

  • Oversee all daily warehouse operations including receiving, put-away, storage, order picking, packing, dispatch, and returns processing.
  • Ensure orders are processed accurately and dispatched within agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Manage operational workflows to maximise efficiency and productivity across all fulfilment activities.
  • Ensure warehouse capacity, labour planning, and resources are aligned with operational demand.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and manage a team of warehouse shift supervisors,, and operational support teams.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing and engaged workforce.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and shift structures to support operational requirements.
  • Provide coaching, training, and development to supervisors and team leaders.
  • Promote a strong health, safety, and quality compliance culture within the fulfilment centres.

Performance & KPI Management

  • Monitor and manage operational performance against key metrics
  • Analyse operational data and implement improvements to enhance productivity and quality.
  • Deliver regular performance reporting to senior management.

Service Delivery

  • Ensure operational performance meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Work closely with the Customer Experience and Account Management teams to resolve service issues.
  • Participate in customer service reviews where operational insight is required.
  • Ensure operational readiness for customer promotions, peak periods, and seasonal demand.

Inventory & Systems Management

  • Maintain high levels of inventory accuracy and stock integrity.
  • Ensure all warehouse activities are accurately recorded within the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
  • Work with IT and systems teams to optimise operational processes through technology.
  • Support the implementation of new systems, automation, or process improvements.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve warehouse processes, workflows, and layout.
  • Implement lean practices and operational improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Lead operational projects related to scaling fulfilment capacity or onboarding new clients.
  • Ensure operational processes remain scalable as the business grows.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure the fulfilment centre operates in full compliance with UK health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain safe working practices and ensure all staff receive appropriate training.
  • Conduct regular safety reviews, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, operational procedures, and industry standards.

 

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

  • Proven experience managing warehouse or fulfilment operations.
  • Experience in e-commerce fulfilment, logistics, or 3PL operations.
  • Strong leadership experience managing large operational teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage operational KPIs and drive performance improvements.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within multi-client fulfilment or third-party logistics (3PL) environments.
  • Experience managing high-volume e-commerce order fulfilment.
  • Knowledge of lean operations or process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience preparing operations for peak trading periods (e.g., Black Friday, seasonal demand).

Success for the Fulfilment Centre Operations Manager is delivering a smoothly running, efficient, and safe fulfilment operation that consistently meets or exceeds client service expectations. It is demonstrated through high operational performance, including order accuracy, timely dispatch, inventory integrity, and productivity, while controlling costs. Success also includes leading a motivated, skilled, and engaged team that embraces accountability, safety, and continuous improvement, resolving client issues effectively, and contributing to strong client satisfaction and retention. The role requires proactive problem-solving, data-driven decision-making, and the ability to scale operations to support business growth, all while maintaining full compliance with health, safety, and operational standards.
