Amazon Preparation

The Client

Catwalk Collection Handbags are one of the UK`s largest privately-owned handbag, work bag and brief case retailers.

The Challenge

In addition to a direct to consumer proposition via the Real Handbag Shop 3P Logistics were asked to provide UK & European wide FBA preparation support.

The challenge would centre around providing our client with a bulk storage facility for which to service replenishments into various Amazon fulfilment centres namely UK, Italy, France, Germany and Spain on an Amazon seller central basis. Thereafter Amazon themselves would fulfil the orders direct to consumer whilst any returns would be sent back to 3PL HQ from the various receiving depots in bulk form.

Each replenishment order would be significant in size and all receiving countries would receive a replenishment. Sending goods into Amazon fulfilment centres requires intervention in the form of preparation of goods and the consignment to a pre-determined Amazon specification. Failure to do so would result in delays at the receiving depot whilst non-compliant deliveries may also attract financial penalties.

The Solution

We have been providing FBA preparation services to various Amazon sellers for many years. The size and complexity of each preparation task differs greatly by seller. Some sellers are exclusively Amazon whilst for others Amazon represents just one of many retail channels.

In this instance a degree of racking was allocated to house a few hundred pallets of stock and an experienced Amazon prep co-ordinator was appointed. A written FBA prep operation spec was agreed with the client and the client would trigger replenishment requests linked to demand and stock levels within the Amazon network.

Upon completion of the pick, pack and preparation work an Amazon ASN (Advanced shipping notification) would be generated which in turn would trigger collection of the consignment by an Amazon preferred carrier i.e. UPS for Parcels or Pallet Line for pallets.

The Result

Our experience in conducting preparation work to Amazon specifications allows our customers to expand Internationally from a central base without the need for multiple operations all over the world. As a result our client is able to optimise availability and through “just in time” replenishment Amazon storage costs are kept as lean as possible.

With FBA Prep by 3PL International expansion became a whole lot easier.

The Inside Track

With “just in time” replenishment there is very little margin for error before availability is affected resulting in lost sales. Amazon can be known to change receipt specification and therefore a close understanding of their ongoing requirements is key to providing a stable supply line.
